Over the past years, I have left my American Political Point of View at the door. Everyone is entitled to their politics without me pushing mine into the mix. But women's rights—our right to choose for ourselves regarding our bodies, and now whether we are better humans because we stay home or go to work according to Project 2025—means I had to take stock of whether I am able to continue to stay silent or not. Here we are at this critical moment in history. With a new candidate for president who is invigorating and motivating Americans to come out of the closet of "don't talk about the elephant in the room," and get active.
We no longer have the luxury of looking away. I am a proud Democrat, but perhaps more important in this election, I'm a proud woman. I want to have the freedom to determine my own destiny and for my daughter and granddaughters to have the freedoms I worked so hard to cultivate. The freedom to think without censorship. (Books are being banned at an alarming rate.) The freedom to decide when and how I have a family. (The abortion ban roll-out will be nationwide if the MAGA team is voted in.) And, I could go on.
I was asked by my collaborator, mentor, and mentee, Christine Merser, to come forward and write for a new publication, We the People Dispatch, that she and her team at Blue 2 Media created, which focuses on 'we the people's' power around America's future. I will be writing about the women's issues at stake in this election. I said yes. It launched a week ago, and it has already garnered a large following, started a podcast, and is putting forth information we can all use in taking action. No more wringing our hands and talking for hours about the fear and absurdity of it all. The action items especially move me. I want to take action and not stand on the sidelines of history.
Interestingly, We the People Dispatch is based on the premise that we the people, collectively, when we act together, can change the trajectory of our country's destiny. I have a book coming out in January about Circles of Collaboration—around the truth that our goals—our individual goals—are realized in part by those we surround ourselves with, and this fits right into We the People's model. The goal? Two million strong, acting together for change.
I hope you will sign up to receive it. It's positive. It's action-oriented. It's easy to read, and if we all join together, we can ensure that November adds to our country a stability embracing liberty and justice for all. My name is Leslie Grossman, and I am an active Democrat in this upcoming presidential election. I look forward to hearing from you if you think there is anything I can do, or if you would like to contribute to We the People Dispatch yourself.
Here is the link to the podcast episode launched just a few days ago, where another contributor, Shanette Barth Cohen, a Republican turned Democrat, who used to work for George Herbert Walker Bush, talks about how she feels about what has happened to her party that was part of her DNA. My first column will be coming out next week, and I will be sharing it on my social media.
